This is it! There is nowhere you can see the power of Niagara as close as you can as on the American side, starting at Prospect Point in the downtown Niagara Falls (NY) tourist district and extending up the river along the Niagara Rapids. We'll be telling you repeatedly, when you visit Niagara Falls you should allocate one-day for the American (NY) side in the downtown Niagara Falls NY tourist district plus one day for the Canadian Side. Then, you should allocate one to two days additional for sights away from the Falls central tourist district. You need to see both sides of Niagara Falls to say you've really seen "the Falls" and you need to be on the American side to get repeatedly up-close and feel this water power almost reach and draw you in. The view below, is a classic view of "The American Falls" with the Canadian "Horseshoe Falls" in the far background. The green to the top center is Goat Island (US Territory) another "must see" location. On the left top of the picture is Canada. The picture was taken from Prospect Point accessible from the main Niagara Falls tourist district. Admission to this Prospect Point Park area is free. The view you see, with hundreds of variations, is one of the most photographed scenes in the world!

Just above this fantastic falls is the roaring Niagara River Rapids. You can easily walk there from here, and then, even further up the rapids there's a bridge to walk over to Goat Island. If you're used to walking you'll want to walk to all the locations shown here from wherever you park your car in the central tourist district (or your tourist district hotel). By walking you'll see and experience much more!
Roaring
Rapids!
We can't make this picture big enough to duplicate the unforgettable impression you'll get in seeing this massive floor of water constantly pouring down on your vantage point from above the bridge to Goat Island.
You can walk right up to this speeding water wall. Do not walk into the water even a foot! Nothing prevents you from doing it. Even a foot from the shore the water may look relatively calm but is so silently powerful it will move you a couple more feet out before you know it---and you'll be on your way over the American Falls! You can not be rescued from this torrent! Anything that enters the water along here disappears downstream in seconds. And downstream is death over the Falls just a 30-second ride away! You won't see this display on the Canadian side and you probably won't believe the seriousness of our warning until you come here and see it for yourself! This is why they call the view of the American Side of the Falls, "Up-Close And Powerful!"
Access And View Is Free For As Long As You Wish To Stay
The observation area you see a small part of below extends all along the American Falls area from the brink to well down river. There is plenty of room to enjoy the views for as long as you wish. Two things to bring: If you're ever going to buy a camera or pair of binoculars do it before your trip here. Choose light-weigh units so you can carry them everywhere with you. You won't regret it! The view and access to the area shown below is all free but those mounted viewscopes will cost you dearly.

If You're Not A Walker
A pleasant alternative to walking are the various people-movers such as the one shown below in Prospect Point Park. They can transport you all over the American Falls tourist area, all day, for one fee. But still, we recommend, if you can walk you'll find it a better experience. There are many places to stop, rest, sit, lay down, and refresh. You can make arrangement for tickets for these viewmobiles right on site. We don't advise buying advance tickets to anything! Only your hotel should be booked in advance (from your home, or on the Internet, directly with the hotel or your local tourist agent---not from one of the "Information Booths" you'll find as you approach within 100 miles of the Falls.) Be wary of sales pitches that imply "everything is sold out."
